Jewellery, whatever its quality, remains fragile. Here a a few tips to preserve its original shine and to avoid damaging it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remove your jewellery when going to bed<\/strong>
While sleeping, you may accidentally rub, press, pull on your necklace or bracelet; you risk breaking it, or simply detaching and losing it.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Remove your jewellery when exercising<\/strong>
Jewellery get easily damaged with sweat or collisions. Moreover, if you get injured, a ring or a bracelet should not stay on a swelling hand. It is best to leave it in the locker room.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Remove your jewellery when cleaning up<\/strong>
Jewellery does not enjoy contact with cosmetics or cleaning products like perfume, deodorant or dishwashing soap. All these products leave traces or tarnish metals and stone with repeated use.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Mind where you put down your jewellery<\/strong>
The tiles from your bathroom is very hard and can damage your jewellery if it falls or if it is put down too harshly. Humidity and metal, even if non ferrous, also do not go well together. It is always best to put away your jewellery in another room before washing.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Put away your jewellery in a closed box<\/strong>
A fabric pouch, a fleece-lined box or even a plastic packet may do the trick. Ideally, every piece of jewellery is kept alone in its own pouch as contact with other metals can accelerate its oxydisation.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Clean your jewellery<\/strong>
If one piece of jewellery shows signs of oxidisiation (tarnishing, black or green marks), you can rub it with special wipes<\/a> or a soft cloth. You can also ask me for a cleaning<\/a> : jewellery by Mercy\u2019s Fancy<\/em> is guaranteed for life!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

This list can seem long and asking of too many efforts, I get that. The purpose is not to lecture you but simply give you some advice based on my experience, both as a jewellery and as a jewellery lover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also keep in mind that, as precautious as you may be, metal jewellery will always end up tarnished. It is a natural and expected process. Some metals resist longer, like silver or gold, whereas copper and brass tarnish very quickly, which is why they are often gilded. That being said, a tarnished ring of necklace should not be thrown away. Metal oxidises but oxidisation cleans up easily! And what breaks can also be repaired.
